Spain's Atlantic Coast (Part 1 of 2)

Although less traveled than Barcelona, Madrid and the Costa's, the Atlantic Coast of Spain has much to offer.

Starting from the French border, you enter the Spanish Basque Country at Hondarribia:

A bit further along the coast, you enter the pastoral landscape of Cantabria, with the city of Santander and the town Santillana del Mar - Sartre's favorite.

The next region to enter is Asturias, with its magnificent capital Oviedo, the scene of Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Near the Picos de Europa you can find two places connected to the Reconquista: the shrine of Covadonga, where Pelagius (depicted in the stained glass window above) defeated the Moors, and Cangas de Onis, once the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias.
