The best time for uploading holiday images

It’s a funny theme, you know. As you can never know when designers need such images and for what purpose unless you are a designer yourself. I know for sure that in the end of the year designers need “calendar” images – I think every photographer notices the selling boom at that time.

But what about holidays that occur in the middle of the year, for example, Hannukah or Independence Day? When a photographer must upload his images so they could be found in the base and bought by a designer?

I’ve been trying to answer this question for several years. I noticed that at average 1.5-2 months before the holiday is the optimal upload time. Of course, if your base already contains images dedicated to the holiday, new images are likely to be noticed and therefore sold. I have several images that I really like, but they have never been sold. I suppose the reason is that I uploaded them too late… Now I’m trying to think beforehand and be ready for every holiday I know of.

I am asking you to give your advice as for the best time for posting holiday images. Maybe you know some tricks about it – tell everyone.

I wish good luck to everybody and to be always on time :).

Hello! The timming for uploading may be really important depending on the search algorithm. There are some sites where search greatly (I mean like in a huge way) favours newer images. In this way, uploading winter images during spring or summer might be a waste of opportunity since you won't be able to upload them again near or during winter when more searches would match.
I might be wrong about it, but I do think DT search is a little biased towards newer images. But not that much that good older images would not be found. Weighting possible small sales "out of season" against a little more advantage when "in season" (loosing those first small sales) If I already ahd the image I would still go for uploading imediatly and not wait for the "right moment". If I'm considering working out the images, then it makes all sense to work images that relate to the present day and near future.

to Ninuscha: I just try to think as a designer in such situations: if there are hundreds of similar images, why would I dig to the bottom if I already found some cute pictures? I see two reasons:
1. Just for curiosity to see if something interesting is in the base. This can be applicable if a designer has time. Usually he doesn't.
2. If a designer knows for sure that the base contains a particular image. So he's looking for that image.
I believe that fresher images are winners.

I believe that a designer would keep on searching for what he/she has in mind till they find it - so if you have images to upload then do it - what's the point in waiting ? besides regarding winter images, it will be winter time in the southern hemisphere whilst we will be enjoying the hot summer months so in my opinion upload upload upload :) good luck

Agree, keywords are very important. But if there are a lot of similar images with similar keywords, I think the latest uploaded is likely to be sold... Buyers can even not see other images, even if they are better.

Really? Have you experienced it? I had no idea about this :(

My question is--what is too early? I was running late last year with my winter holiday season stuff. I have a bunch now that are pretty good, but I am afraid to upload because I am afraid that they may be denied because they are winter holdiay photos.

Hi, I´ve been uploading some winter images lately. They didn´t got denied just because they are winter related...

I don't think there is timing for such images, upload and let it be in your pf, eventually buyers will find them. Important part if right keyword.

to Deedeedixon: I think you can upload your winter images and if they are good they won't be denied. The only problem for them is that they are unlikely to be sold untill the next winter. So they can be lost among other images that will be uploaded closer to the next winter.
to Trottola: thank you very much! I really like them too :)
I just wonder if there is the right proper time for uploading holiday images. I think it depends on many circumstances...
