The birth of Angel's Artography

I began my career in Law Enforcement ten years ago. Currently I am working full-time as a Detention officer/Reserve deputy. Within the last year I have found a new love for taking photos in my spare time.

I used to have this drive to become a detective, but it's no longer my goal. Life as a Law Enforcement Officer is more demanding than ever and leaves little time for fun.

I can't really tell you the moment it happened, but a few years ago I bought a Canon t2i for around $850.00. When I was raising my children I struggled financially and I could never afford beautiful photos that hung on my walls and I owned a 110 camera and it was expensive to develop your pictures.

Within the last year, when my career suddenly did not make me happy anymore, I bought the Canon and somewhere down the line I just started taking pictures. I began posting them on Facebook and people went crazy with compliments. I admit I am not a professional and have not attended any classes but a two hour basic photography class. None of my photos are photo-shopped except for lightening, darkening and cropping them. I haven't quite figured out how to use Photoshop to do things like removing fencing or blemishes or anything else for that matter. I’m very much an amateur.

After all the compliments on Facebook I decided to print my photos in 8x10 enlargements. I shopped around for frames that matched the photos. I decided to try and sell them on my website, but having a full time job leaves little time to work on my site. I registered my business name at the deeds office as Angel’s Artography and I left there with excitement.

I had my first photo display booth in Grifton NC at the annual Shad Festival then the next weekend in Farmville NC at the Farmville Dogwood Festival. Both shows were a lot of work and I don’t know how many more I can do while working a fulltime job.

I received so many wedding offers and family portraits, but I only sold three of my nature photos and became very disappointed. I’m still not sure if I am ready for photographing people. I do really well with my children and grandchildren, but it is not my desire to photography people at this time. My real love is outdoor photos of waterfalls, animals, beaches, sunrises, etc.

There was one good thing came out of the two Festivals. There was a sophisticated older gentleman that came to my booth. He was taken back at my work (photos on display) so much that he told me, "You've have got a really good eye. I want to help you try and sell your photos."

He introduced himself as Walter Perkins the owner of Hatteras Hammocks in NC. He said that he likes to see small businesses succeed. He told me that he started out with $500.00 and now he is worth millions. He took my business card and said he would try and find the website to the company that helps you sell your photos. I was excited but I really didn't see him calling me since it is VERY common for people to tell that they are going to do something for you, but then forget about it. But to my surprise he called me and had his marketing team email me information about stock photos and this is how I found Dreamstime.

I look forward to working with clients that have an interest in my photos. I would like to earn enough to retire from my full-time job and open a shop that sells AFFORDABLE photos to people so they can sit back after a hard day's work and look on their wall and see the beautiful framed photography that shows the beauty in God's creations.

Thank you for the opportunity

Sincerely,

Angel Rypkema

Hi Angel. To see what sells well here, have a look at Categories from the selection menu and drill down on Nature - then sort by Best Selling. Hope that helps, and good luck! K-
