Some advice for the travel photographers out there for visiting Greece: Undoubtedly the whitewashed homes of Mykonos and the views of Santorini have been the perennial favorites to represent this country in magazines, calendars and posters.
Greece however has over 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Sea and 16,000kms of coastline! And don’t forget, the mainland has hundreds of bays, and coves, and coastal towns all waiting to be photographed!
If you have the time, make sure you visit some of the islands of the beaten path such as Agistri, a short ride from Athens, Ios, Antros, Astypalea, Amorgos to name a few. Don’t forget coastal towns such a Nafplio the former capital of Greece after it gained its independence from the Ottoman Empire, Gytheio, and more.
Don’t get me wrong. Santorini and Mykonos are just amazing but you will be missing out on some other unbelievable places and a lot more authentic as they have not been spoiled by the tourism industry.
