Too Artistic

Many contributors and Website reviewers have told me I am too artistic and not commercial enough for high selling. I am still struggling on trying to direct my photographs to a more commercial style. Do u have any advice on the best ways to do so? Any help would be great!

I was in shock when I got rejections for artistic images because when I was looking at artistic images I used to think "I could never be artistic".
Just look at the images accepted here and soon you'll figure out what you need to do.

It's an old story. Do you produce what is true to yourself or do you produce what will make money?

The trick is to do both.

What is your expectations; if this is a hobby and you like your artistic-go with in and enjoy. If you need to make money or want to make money (most of us do); then you will need to combine your skills with products to be able to sell.

For example, I am a wildlife photographer but this is also a business; my job or work, as you may call it. Wildlife photography is my passion but it can take days or weeks to get good images; they are not the best sellers and there are many days I can not do photography (bad light, bad weather, etc) so I have started shooting studio images of general products. Hopefully, I will be successful and sell enough additional images to make it worth the effort.

In summary, no way will I give up wildlife photography; I do not believe you should give up your artistic images. Maybe just branch out a bit.

Try to mix your artistic skills with a concept that sells, like business, health, celebrations... etc! Play the rank game, check big portfolios & see what is the best selling on each! Good luck! :)
