Turn off that start up beep!

I was video taping a Flag Day Ceremony yesterday. It was a lovely ceremony presented by our Local Elks Club. There was a young lady with a beautiful voice singing Patriotic songs. There was a reading of the History of our flag from a local minister as the original Flags were carried by members of the military. A really beautiful presentation. When I examined the tape later that evening, it came out really well, except for one thing. The sound of people turning their cameras on and off. There were clicks, beeps and musical notes throughout the entire video from the cameras of people standing near me. Is it really necessary to hear a sound when you take a picture? Does anyone really need to hear birds chirping to know that their camera is now on? And the fact that you pushed the off button should be sufficient evidence that the camera is off without having an annoying beep, briiiing or chirp. However, if you must have a sound, for goodness sake, be courteous, turn the volume down. PLEASE!

Haha, that was great. I agree completely!

I agree with all of the above, but I just wish i could afford a camcorder with or without noise!!

First thing I did after buying my cam was: turning of ALL sounds. Because I hate these sounds. And they suck energy from the batteries I need for shooting.

turned mine off last week whilst taking pics during a theatre performance, it was irritating to me let alone to others :)

Speaking about noise! I almost don't hear anything from the world cup matches because of the vuvuzela noise! When I put the TV louder I had a headache! I wonder how the players can handle it during at least 90 minutes of game!

Very much agree to this.
And like Retina2020 said, its so irritating to see those tiny flashes going off in a massive crowd (and that flash is not going to help them any way)
Another thing that people miss out is that your battery gets drained out faster with all those sound effects.

Unfortunately most people don't care to read their camera manual or know enough about photography or their camera. Just look at the Olympic ceremonies. All those camera flashes going off from all those cameras. Do you really think a little on board flash can really light a stage performer over 100s of feet away? :P

Thanks Egomezta, you are right. I know that alot of people don't know they can control and turn off the camera sounds and I think that is the biggest part of the problem because it seems that everyone has a digital camera these days and they do exactly what the camera says, point and shoot. So, 50 people with different noises from 50 different cameras can become quite distracting. That is why I thought of writing this little blog and also to vent a bit about my video experience.

I agree with you, It is a big problem that many doesn't care or they don't even know they can control these noises on their cameras

I disabled all my in camera sounds and beeps, has been so since i first used a point and shoot digital camera. Usually i note my focus lock with the lcd or viewfinder display. Personally i felt it might irritate others or scare my subjects which are sensitive to sounds away. For digital slr the shutter click can't be helped.

That`s sad! Hope you`ll have more civilized people near you next time!
