VegNews Apologizes

Yesterday VegNews issued an apology to its readers for using non-vegan microstock photos deliberately Photoshopped to look vegan. They also hinted that they would "build and host a vegan photo bank to assure the availability of vegan stock image." Here's the link: VegNews Apology. This story was originally researched and uncovered by blogger, Quarrygirl.com and quickly spread through the vegetarian community. What's your opinion?

It was good that VegNews were reminded strongly enough about the philosophy behind their magazine so that they had to make amends.

Actually there are several images that were found by Quarrygirl. Here is the link to the original blog post that started the controversy: RANT: VegNews is putting the MEAT into vegan issues.

BCritchley - thanks for your comments - and yes I do see your point. I guess the outrage came more from feeling lied to. Many vegetarains choose this lifestyle as their own personal way to make a difference in the world. They see publications such as VegNews as being an ally, sympathetic to the cause of not killing animals. By purposely doctoring "meat" photos to appear "vegen" the magazine is in a sense not being true to their philosophy and core values. And yes ... I was offended by what they did - not only as a vegetarian, but also as a photographer of microstock.

If this is the biggest thing some people have to worry about then they must be doing just dandy. Who would think someone would have the audacity to photoshop a none vegan shot to make it appear vegan, those poor readers who saw an image that looked vegan but really was not.
I'm sure the many thousands of innocent people being killed, maimed, loosing friends and relatives in say Libya right now would love for this to be the worst of their problems. Have you seen this years Pulitzer prize winning photo's?? Pulitzer winners
I would understand more if this came out on April the 1st.
Surely this is not news, surely someone in the USA using the wrong picture of the Statue of Liberty on millions of stamps is bigger????
Hope I have not offended anyone but I was asked for my opinion :-)
