Is it worth remaining exclusive on Dreamstime? - Dreamstime

Having been exclusive with Dreamstime for some time now you reach a point where you wonder whether you'd made the right decision or whether you might have been better 'spread betting' with lots of agencies, or indeed going exclusive elsewhere.

Chatting to a close friend of mine who is active on another site I realised that there continue to be many advantages to staying exclusive with DT. For one, the 'crowd' here are friendlier than you will find on other sites, and the reviewers are fairer and certainly respond to the queries you have quickly.

In addition to the cultural aspects of remaining exclusive with DT, there are also financial aspects. Of course, being exclusive bumps me up the rankings quite a bit and I expect to clip the 500 sales point this week but also the pricing is clear and fair.

Now, I don't know what it truly is like to be a member of other stock photography sites but my conversation with my friend who does reaffirmed that my initial decision to join DT rather than any other site was the correct one.

As such, I look forward to remaining an exclusive member of this community.

Hello guys, I have recently became an exclusive contributor for dreams time, I am under 18, and I am just a newbie at photography. I have about 50 images, I am looking forward to uploading more images, thank you very much, hopefully I made the right decision.

Thought I would place my question here. Any suggestions on how to push for sales? I am now over the 50 image upload mark and really want to become an exclusive user.

Edited by myself as advice now out of date and not relevant.

Hi There!

I just turned exclusive today!!!... Yay!!!...

Like some other commentators, I did try a few other agencies out too...
But as I personally do not have unlimited time - for everything I enjoy (work and play wise), I decision to go for the most efficient option...

DT gives me more views and though I only have a relatively small portfolio - for the moment (ha ha) - at least I am starting to sell images here... Also enjoy the DT community - and that is of course absolutely down to all of you guys!

Many thanks!

Hi. Before to becoming exclusive on DT I have posted for a couple of years on several microstock. Only here I found fair reviewers that use their time also for explain the reason of the refused files and that I have appreciated a lot because I have learned the techicanl requirement.

Then I think that's very important the editorial stock section that many microstock does not have.

Third, I appreciated very much that you got money for uploading files and this is also a good reason to be here.

Finally, people are friendly and correct, not evious. And not too bad ;-)

I am just disappointed for my sales that does not take off as I wish my this is not a DT fault!!!
PS Sorry for my english that I have to improve. :-)

I have often wondered about exclusivity here at DT, the community is fantastic however my concern would be revenue, I submit to 5 sites in total and DT since I started in stock about 16 months accounts for a shade over 13% of my revenue.

I'm not sure for me it would be the correct move, I am lucky to be blessed with the time to submit to different sit so it is not an issue.

Yours is an excellent choice, DT is a very professional agency!!!

Inyrdreams, I'm not the best one to get advice from, but I took a quick look at your portfolio and I noticed two things that might help.

The first will take a bit of work, and it is to try to get more stock oriented images. Many of your pictures are good, but they don't have a clear buyer in mind. Think about who could use your images as you are taking them.

The second thought is easier to implement. Many of your images have titles that make good titles for artwork, but they don't include words that people would search for when looking for that image. For example, you have one titled "Wish you were here?" A more searchable title would include words that are in the image such as "Colorful beach umbrella near ocean". Keep in mind that the search terms you are targeting should be in the keywords, title, and description.

Good luck with future sales!

I don't care to put all my eggs in one basket, but for those that do, I surely think DT is the best choice for many reasons!

I love DT....I was contributing to at least three other sites at one stage. Most images were uploaded on the same day to all three sites. The views alone obtained from DT far exceeded those from the others the uploading and keywording system on DT is far easier to use. Thanks DT!!!

Happy to be exclusive although there is always that nagging thought that one could do better. My advice to anyone just starting out is to give being exclusive at least twelve months. Build up a decent portfolio. Use the upload cash for equipment and learn like crazy. If after a year you don't think your selling enough, then you can try other places. I don't think anyone should expect to be an overnight sensation.

Last year I stopped being exclusive (for one month) because I tought I had some spare time, so I tried in a couple of another stock agencies but I found out that it takes too much time to adapt to the way they need the files and their info. Just when I was undertanding how they work, I started to get too much work at my construction company so I didnt' have any more spare time. So I deleted my accounts in this two other sites and ask Dreamstime to be exclusive again. What I saw in DT when I wasn't exclusive was about a 40% reduction of the number of sales and receiving 30% less money for every sale. So, I'm very happy being exclusive, it works for me.

with 2 jobs on top of stock, I knew I had little time to do more then one site! I am exclusive with dreamstime.. however, today I just hit my 100 accepted image!! yay! (actually 108) but ive only had 3 sales! can anyone tell me what I can do to help incease that part?? so far I love being exclusive here.

I would love to be exclusive here. But I also submit Rights Managed images to a macro agency (not the same images as DT). If DT could revise its policy to allow exclusivity on RF images (ie. not submit to other microsites) but let you submit RM elsewhere then I would go exclusive on RF here immediately.

I am happy with DT too as in the beginning I was using other agencies but my images only sold here so I decided to become exclusive and don't regret my decision one bit.
