Zombies Take Over Asbury Park, New Jersey - Dreamstime
Just a few days ago, for the second year in a row, I had an incredible amount of fun participating in the Asbury Park Zombie Walk. For the past six years, people have gathered here to dress as zombies and have a fantastic time with family and friends. As usual, it was not only fun to dress up but also take photos all day long.
This event is certainly a photographer’s paradise, with nonstop photo ops!
This year’s walk was particularly significant since there was a push to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for “The Largest Gathering of Zombies.” According to the NJ Zombie Walk website, the last record for the category was in 2012 at the 8th Annual Zombie Pub Crawl in the Twin Cities. 8027 zombies participated in Minneapolis that day to break the record. Now, since October 6th of this year, Asbury Park officially regained that honor with a count of 9592 zombies! Way to go! It seems that since Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast of the US last year, these events are becoming more important in this area as people try to “Restore the Shore” and bring business to the areas that suffered most.
Wondering how it all went down? Well, they had every “zombie” walk through turnstiles and enter the beach area in Asbury Park. Once you were on the beach, there were people who monitored the area to make sure that no one could leave, thus ensuring an accurate count. So, as if entering the subway or a ride at Disney, we were corralled onto the beach and into Guinness’s book.
If you ever have the opportunity to attend either this event or a similar one, I would highly recommend it. There is something so incredibly fun about dressing up as the undead and getting into the Halloween spirit. It is truly an event where anything goes. I have seen everything from bride zombies to Sponge Bob zombies!
You never know who you'll see!
Perhaps a celebrity "photo bomb" as well! Miley sure loves the camera!
