Starting today we upgrade our news-worthy section to accept non-model released and non-property released images that are directly connected and pertinent to current events, news and political stories, social and cultural scenes.
It is in fact the launch of a whole new license, bringing our community to the next level of maturity. We have reached the point where both our photographers and buyers are knowledgeable and experienced enough to grasp the difference between commercial and editorial images, with all ethical and moral criteria involved.
The current section, "In the News", will remain in place, acting similar to the "Editors' Choice" section, meaning that it will feature and reward the $5/submission to editorial images that have a powerful social message. But it will now add the advantage of a whole new license and the benefits of its flexibility.
Photographers are now asked to readjust their creative approach: forget about trying to hide faces, remove logos and cover the event at its full potential.
Do you have photos of famous buildings, rock concerts or crowded city streets that were previously refused? You can submit them now but keep in mind their editorial usefulness.
The submission process is as simple as before. After uploading, (regular upload or FTP) select the appropriate tab. If you choose the Editorial one, your image will be listed within the database as all other images are, but under the new editorial license. It will also reach a different pending line, reviewed with priority.
Assign relevant information about the event your image may cover and it will also be featured under the In the News section, rewarding you the $5 bonus. Consequently, note that not all editorial images will be accepted under the “In the News†section, but only those depicting important events.
Price structure for editorial images is the same as for RF images, extended licensing being available only as U-EL (unlimited seats) and I-EL (increased number of copies).
Terms and conditions for editorial license
Ah, now I see why the Editorial text had appeared on the submission page, earnings detail and image detail of one of my images yesterday! I nearly posted a thread about it, as I hadn't noticed it before, but now all is revealed.
Cool, now we can all start 'papping' like the best of 'em!
Where does Brittany live again?
@Stuartkey: Thank you very much for not reveling our little secret, you would have spoiled the surprise :)
Now about Britney, where did I put that little black agenda...
Also the Dreamfinder was updated, to reflect the Editorial option.
For ease of use, a checkbox named "only with people" was added, which only displays images having a MR associated.
The content filter was moved on the left side, due to the removing of the "by filename/ID" option. If you enter a filename or an ID the search will be performed automatically.
Whooha, that's great!!
Good updates on Dreamfinder too, I always use to forget to check the filename/ID tick box when using it.
What about news related images uploaded before revealing editorial license? Do we have to wait only for approval or do something more (tick some box or something)?
Will editorial photos be available for subscribers?
Wow! Great News/Move!
Great news, Thanks Dreamstime.
Wow very great news ..
Thanks a lot
Wow, that is a great addition!! The only thing I am still a little bit unclear about is what falls under editorial and what not. To give an example; I travel as much as I can and have various travel images that I am sure would do well under the editorial license. I understand that important building would fall under that, but what about - for instance - images of tribes in Thailand or Madagascar? Would that be wanted or that is not the idea of the editorial images?
I don't want to start uploading stuff that is not really wanted or needed, so would appreciate a little more clarity on that end!
Thanks!
Great news! Thanks for the new license option!
This license has been long awaited and will complete DT. I sell actually quite some editorial at a competing site. It will have to remain seen how narrow or wide the newsworthy content will be interpreted by the reviewer(s). No other way to find out than start uploading. So let's move ;-)
This is something I have been waiting for! Splendind move, DT!
@Fotosmurf: from what I imagine, your photos may have cultural value, most probably they will be OK from this point of view. Without seeing them I cannot guarantee whether they're fine or not as a various number of things are involved. Quality is still important for images that don't refer to important news, where manipulation is to be avoided at maximum.
Submit them and you'll find out ;)
Really great news!!!

Great. I will just upload a few and see how it's received!
for example, is this shot eligible to be an editorial shot?
Shot
Some glitches?
- You can submit editorial without ticking the box that you agree with the conditions.
- When editing the image in the pending queue, you fall back in the RF screen - there is also no way to see if this image was submitted as Editorial. Imagine you made a mistake, then you can't change the category from RF to Editorial any more.
