I like to scan two different things: photo's and some scetches.
However, I'm not sure what to do with the settings of my scanner.
I assume that for the photo's, the higher the DPI, the better?
My scanner has 2 options: "scan resolution" and "output resulution". I can set both to max 600 DPI. Is this adviced for scanning photo's?
Then for the scetches... I'm going to make vectors from them, so I guess scanning those can be done 72 DPI, since I'm only going to use them for tracing purposes.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated!

I would use max 600 dpi for both.
It depends how you are tracing your sketches, but I have discovered the smoother (higher dpi) they are, the better results. But I'm tracing with Inkscape.
M, Adobe CS6, Samsung Galaxy S6...

I would recommend using the max dpi, but you should do some tests and find out what is the best method for your workflow, considering the time spent for scanning and the tracing difficulty at different dpi.
