Just got some critique back from my client. They like the angle/expression on 19723622 (#2 above) the best, but do not like the curl of hair on his cheek. I could probably Photoshop that out, but if you're willing to try another shot or two for me, it would be easier. I'm wondering if you could either brush the hair out of his face or shoot the other side like you did for 19723707 (last one above) with the same angle and expression as 19723622. They also mentioned that the lighting on his hair looked artificial. Do you have a way to light him that would reduce the shine and maybe the red highlights of his hair? Once again, I can play with colors in Photoshop, but if you can accommodate that request, that would be great.
A request from the book's author regarding the expression was that there be just a tiny bit of fear in his expression and maybe have his eyes track even further away from the camera--looking more the other direction (to a scene that is behind him on the cover). The reason for this is that I'm combining him with a reenactment picture of a revolutionary battle. The character is witness to a battle and is somewhat scared throughout. I don't want outright terror because that was not the mood I wanted to convey on the cover, but to take the author's request into consideration, maybe he could look a little less serene and a little more wary.
Let me know if you can reshoot. If not, I'll just buy the one that was closest and get busy in Photoshop.
I have uploaded another image with a light blue background and shot in the open so there isn't any red cast on it. He is looking slightly further away from the camera and there is no hair on his cheek. His expression looks better but I personally am not quite so keen on the angle of the head. I have asked for one of the other images to be replaced by it if it passes inspection. Not sure when it will get looked at as it is the weekend. Hope it is of use to you.
Yes, I bought it. Thanks so much for working with me. The book is called Battle at Blue Licks. It's a junior level chapter book. I'll let you know when it should be available. Probably in a couple months.
