In a few weeks time, I might have the opportunity to visit Istanbul for a few days. As I have never travelled out of Europe before, I am looking for lots of info. And where better to turn to than this wonderful photographers community :)
During two days, I will be out and about on my own, free to wander the streets and discover and off course capture some of Istanbuls miracles. Wich places should I not miss, and wich places better to forget about (being a single female with rather big camera...)? Any info is very much appreciated!
The trip is booked! I am very excited (and a bit anxious ;) about it!
But you are right Alexander, I probably won't even be out of Europe, tecnically speaking hehe.
I think I will be focussing on the city and it's inhabitants themselves this time, try some street photography. And beside that, try to visit one or two of the highlights, probably the bazar and a mosque or palace. Oh, and boating sounds nice :) Just toooooo little time to see everything ;)
You were right, Angela. Istanbul is a truly wonderful place! Such a huge city and still the people and the athmosphere are very friendly and relaxed. Quite impressive :)
In the end, I only had one day to explore the city, wich off course was way to short, but still very much worth the trip. I visited Sultanahmet with the Blue Mosque, The Basilica Cystern (thanks Luis!), Grand bazaar, spice market and the New Mosque and got myself lost in the beautiful old streets north of the spice market. Loved it! We dined in the Maiden's Tower, a magical place although the food was not as impressive ;) I would have loved a visit to Princess island Objectiv, but there just was no time. Maybe next time round ;)
Oh, and I have been worrying way to much about being there on my own. It was great to talk to so many people and to be able to take my time to photograph everything I liked. If you ever get the chance to visit this fantastic city, please don't hesitate!
