I had the same dilemma, and ended up with the Canon 28mm. The main problem for me was that I couldn't find any local store to actually try the Sigma. There are lots of so so reviews on the 28mm from Canon, but I enjoy it. Another factor was that I ended up in the US - for some reason the Canon 28mm is strangely expensive in Canada compared to other lenses :)

Yes, I have noticed that too, and I'm not sure the lens is really worth that much. Thanks for the info. It's good to see an image taken by the lens, approved and sold several times too. Do you have some sample shots taken at f/1.8?
Didn't get much response but I've bought the lens. It seems to front-focus a fair bit (and beyond my 7D's MA ability). I'll take it to a nearby Sigma service shop to have a checkup and possibly calibration to my body.
I would like to report that the lens is working much better after calibration, decently sharp even at f/1.4 and up to my standard. I dropped it off (Gentec's service department) on Monday and picked it up on Friday, with the lens adjusted, cleaned and checked. I didn't even need to leave my body with them. Got to love Sigma's 10 years of warranty in Canada.
