It's been ages since I did anything in Illustrator so not much help on that end but I just wanted to mention that it's a terrific image! Hard to believe 2013 is coming to an end so soon!
I have a bunch of 2014 New Year images waiting in my queue too.

Uhm... did You also tried to reduce the size? EPS is a scalable format, so it's not important the original size. I suggest you to reduce it and see what happens!

I think You use a bitmap in this file. That's why.

What I have done in the past is to create a NEW file in Illustrator, then paste your flattened image from Photoshop into it and save the file as a .eps, then save the file that you submit as an Illustrator 8 or CS2. Also make sure that it is RGB.
