I strive to create a universal climate within my art, often creating work revolving around relationships, fears, sacrifice, time, and tradition. I pursue these broad themes because they are exceptionally wide-ranging and engaging on various levels to a diverse array of people, despite the vast differences and backgrounds that people have. This body of work reflects my efforts to change perceptions of physical substance and the ordinary. To look beyond the surface, to find meaning in what is hidden or sometimes overlooked. I am simply expressing what "moves" me and what fascinates me, and in turn I attempt to evoke these same feelings in the viewer. Some of my images are created within a staged setting and the art of role-playing comes into action. The series which are cinematic in tone and controversial in subject matter reflect a basic philosophy and view I have about the human condition. For example, the way everything physically appears to your eyes or senses is just a limited view of what is really there. Your position is limited to your perceptions and is not necessarily the only way to look at things. It is all a matter of what exists in your mind. Similarly, how one perceives life is how one will live. I perceive that all things are connected, and it is through this inquiry I am filled with a sense of amazement and awe of life. It is my aim that my work will evoke this joy and wonder in the viewer. My approach to photography is extremely intensive. With several of my series I have expressed my ideas by the act of working and reworking the image through alternative processing to create an emotional atmosphere for the viewer. This approach allows me to physically connect my ideas and visions. I have found that this connection creates a powerful statement within the final image. It is through this process that I have found my artistic pursuits to be continually evolving. While my previous work reflect my past experiences, they also influence my current pieces. Likewise, my current work references the past while stretching out and extending into my present experiences, one building upon the other. It is in this way that I feel photography mirrors life and this is the most important reason I continue to create images. *
