Thank you, Wisconsinart, it's nice that someone else understand what I am saying. It isn't just getting friends and relatives, I think those that have photos, will go through and give one star to all other photos and fives to their own. It might HELP to make it impossible to vote on your own, but they could still vote down everyone else's. I was thrilled to get mine in the contest and they have sold pretty well as level 5s so I'm good. One of mine came in 16th out of 148 submissions (I was really proud of that) and then the last one came in 250 something out of 400 something. That was was a GREAT photo, but didn't get the votes I felt it should have. It was on subject, it was top quality, but no. I almost NEVER agree with the winners (sorry to say that to the winners, but I don't). Maybe it would be better if only staff voted based on a set of criteria established ahead of time, like capturing the subject, clarity, color, selling potential, etc. They have a lot of staff that approves photos, that admin these boards, and do other things besides run the business and maybe THEY should be the voters. Who knows. Until it becomes more fair I doubt I will EVER put another one in even though I was happy with my placement. Thanks for the message :) I'm sure I will get a lot of negative feedback and I'm prepared for that. I DID feel bad about not being able to change my vote on that photo. If it wins I'll feel better. If it is pretty low on the list, I will feel bad for them but better about the mess up. I try to be 100% honest on the photos but not everyone else does. And THAT is a shame.
I don't have any images in this time, but I don't like the way the voting is. I accidentally hit the 4 star on one I meant to hit the 5 and I can't change it. This upsets me. If they come in 4th when they could have been 3rd or 2nd and it& ... [Read more...]
I don't have any images in this time, but I don't like the way the voting is. I accidentally hit the 4 star on one I meant to hit the 5 and I can't change it. This upsets me. If they come in 4th when they could have been 3rd or 2nd and it's my fault I would be very upset. Also I think that those in the competition should not be able to vote. I think it's pretty fair to say that there are some of us that even when we are IN the competition we have been honest and given all photos a vote we thought was fair, but there are those that simply want to win, so they go in, give themselves a 5 and ignore the rest or give them ones and get their friends to do the same. I think there should be voting rules just as there are submission rules. Sometimes the ones that are at the bottom don't deserve to be there, and the ones near the top, same thing. I have seen some in the past (I'm not talking about the TWO I have entered, I was happy just to have mine accepted) that where near the top and not that great, when some of the images in there were near perfect and they are way down the list. You can't keep photographers from asking their friends to rig the competition, but you could at least keep the photographers themselves from doing it. (And shame on those of you that do it.)
