29 October 2011, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Crowds flock to witness the opening of the Central City Retail Precinct in Cashel Street Mall. This is part of the Heart Start campaign which aims to re-establish central Christchurch after the devastating earthquake in February 2011. Speakers in the background included Mr. John Key (the New Zealand Prime Minister), Mr. Jerry Brownlie (politician) and Mr. Bob Parker (Christchurch Mayor).
Built out of shipping containers, the precinct is home to more than 20 shops and represents a new beginning for Christchurch's quake-ravaged CBD.
Today the iconic Ballantynes department store also opened its doors for the first time since February 2011.
