The world-famous rock formations on the coast of Northern Ireland. The interlocking basalt columns are the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Most of the columns are hexagonal although there are also some with four, five, seven or even eight sides. In mythology, legend has it that Irish warrior Fionn Mac Cumhaill built the causeway to walk to Scotland to fight his Scottish opponent.
