Description: On the bank of the river Pushpavati, the Modhera sun temple was constructed in the year 1026 AD. It was established by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty, in the dedication of Lord Surya. It is one of the finest architectures of the eleventh century. One of the best features of the temple consists of the carved torana arches. The sculpture and carvings on the walls are really attractive and the big Surya Kund is fantastic. It is currently being maintained by Archaeological Survey of India and they have developed good garden around it. Since this is an ancient and historical place, historical remains of art are found here. The large sun temple of Modhera is famous all over the world for Indian architecture.Situated at a distance of 102 kms from Ahmedabad airport . The nearest railway station is Mehsana. 2½ hours journey from Ahmedabad (119kms.). State transport buses and private luxury coaches connect various major towns and cities of Gujarat.
