We're very close to this year's end and as usual, we think of beginnings and beginning new. An end is also perceived as another beginning so we'll end this year and begin the next one with an assignment on New Beginnings, on fresh starts.
To begin with, start thinking of commencements, origins, openings, inaugurations. People traditionally welcome the first of January as the day of new dreams and hopes, of birth and re-birth. A new beginning can be the first seconds in a newborn's life or the first grass blades in spring, moving into a new house or throwing away old clothes, a new year's resolution list, a positive pregnancy test or opening a window into an imaginary future. Keep in mind that new beginnings take place everywhere all the time. Don't stop at personal experiences. As the proverb says, “from small beginnings come great things,” hence an empty broken egg shell or a baby turtle's paw prints on the beach, a sprouting snowdrop or a dramatic dawn can also convey the idea of fresh starts.
The best beginners will be awarded $300 (first place), $200 (second place) and $100 (third place) to use for their own personal new beginnings. They will also receive one brand new Dreamstime t-shirt each.
Quoted Message: Tangie - great insights for inspiration! If you shot what you see in your mind, you`d be a stock goddess!
Why thanks :) :P. I cannot claim credit for all the ideas, just the throwing away of old stuff. That is always a new beginning for me. You can throw away anything that no longer works or fits :P in your life. And maybe the turtle's paw prints was something of emotional I thought of but I am sure someone already did that.
Part of the ideas given as example are cliches and have probably been done in the past. But, as always, we are very much open to improvements, fresh approaches, new angles or unexplored points of view.
I have several files that I already have exclusive with Dreamstime...how do I get those files into this contest? Do I have to resubmit them and then disable the old files or is there a different process to designate files already in one's portfolio that relate (perfectly) to the contest?

You need to upload the files again as regular submissions. They will go in your Unfinished files folder. Then, please access the Submit for assignment page, link here and add the appropriate images from the Unfinished folder. If these submissions are approved for assignment, please disable the old images.
This is going to be my first assignment and i'm pretty excited about it :D If the image(s) I submit doesn't place in the top three, does it still remain as an exclusive image here, or can it be sold elsewhere if it doesn't win?
Still exclusive here for 12 months I believe. See even if you do not win you have either sold the picture for $25 ( sure not many choose this option ) or on acceptance the image is upgraded straight to a level 5 image, which can have obvious benefits. Saying this it's much harder to get a shot accepted and very frustrating when and if you get the "too simplistic" rejection only to the see other similar shots later accepted. It's all good though but the work submitted really has to be the cream of the cream to have a fighting chance. Good luck and let us know if you get anything in :-)
Canon L 28-300, Canon L 24-70, 50mm prime f/1.4, 2 x Canon 580EX II F...
I submitted three files that I had in previous contests...but they are very appropriate for this contest as well....I figured that since they were already exclusive with Dreamstime, that i could resubmit them for this contest...but they've all been turned down...
So I guess you're not able to resubmit an image if it's already been submitted for another contest?
