Thanksgiving is close and for many of us this is the season for holiday feasts, for celebrations with our families, for giving thanks and giving back. What is the Dreamstime team thankful for, you ask? Well, we're thankful for our community. Each one of you makes up Dreamstime. We thank you for making Dreamstime the dream community that it is today. Let us share a bit of this dream, maybe make some dreams come true for others.
We ask you to join us in sharing the blessings of this year's Thanksgiving with those less fortunate. Donate credits or earnings and we'll match your donation!
We wish to support the causes that mean the most to you so we're leaving the decision of where the donations should go up to you, our community. Tell us which charity you think deserves a donation and why right here in this thread.
Donating couldn't be easier. Here's how it will work:
3. Dreamstime will match the value of your donation
4. Choose a charitable cause and post it in this thread
5. Share this on social channels and ask your friends to join our cause. News travel faster when tweeted or posted on walls. We'll count only the votes on our message board but we're counting on you to spread the word.
The campaign kicks off today, November 10th and will end on November 25th. On that date, we'll announce the charity that was most popular among all of you, and celebrate the amount we raised as a community.
We're giving thanks, we're giving back and together, we can make a difference!
I and many others are diabetic. This is the largst growing disease in the world. Rich or poor coutries. People usually do not die from diabetes, but from problems caused by it such as heart and kidney disease.
I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic January of last year, and have all the problems associated with it. My kidneys are operating at 55% and I've had 3 stents put in major hear arteries for blockages.
The American Diabetes Association provides a lot of education as far as medication adn nutrition and much research to help out all over the world.
Because I have a grand-daughter with a blood disorder that is similar to hemophilia. I regularly donate blood platelets using a process called apheresis very similar to dialysis. Blood platelets are used by people with lukemia or are going through chemotherapy and are not able to create enough platelets of their own. Blood platelets are used to assist the blood clotting process. The tireless technicians at the Red Cross do wonderful work to ensure a supply of whole blood and other human blood products are available for those in medical need.
Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. Our community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
If you are looking to stay clear of religious or political affiliations then I vote for Doctors Without Borders. http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org
The organization is committed to bringing quality medical care to people in crisis regardless of their race, religion, or political affiliation. As an organization, MSF is neutral. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care on the basis of need alone, and pushes for increased independent access to victims of conflict as required under international humanitarian law.
But the act is more important than the where. Helping is helping. Thanks for being so awesome!!!
With so much need around all of us it's always very difficult to decide but I believe DWB is a very good choice. Of course, our donations here shouldn't stop us from giving more through other channels. :)
Achilles there are here photographers who earned/month a lot of moneys :) from the selling photos (with studios, models and connections), and they are on a lots of microstock website's but don't expect some of them will donate some important funds :)
That the world where we living....many see only their interest, probably a Discovery Channel show with some wales dies on the beach will stimulate their appetite for donation. I know from experience...
And i know many rich people and when u talk with them about a charity for a foundation or for some kids with problem they have null interest all the time they said: i don;t have :) but everyone forget one thing: when we die we don;t take nothing with us where we going after.

I think it is more a matter of getting the word out there, and timing, rather than selfishness. I only log into facebook about every three months and I never visit the forums here... so, I feel lucky that I saw the post. But if I have until the 25th, I will let my earnings sit a few days before I send in my donation. I optimistically think others are doing the same. :)
As to "good starts and fails..." Most, if not all, of the organizations listed here have a long track record of, oh, so NOT fail. Need is need, it isn't a matter of voting for the most important cause or deciding who deserves it most. They all deserve it, they all have a wonderful purpose, but it is a really cool gesture to let us vote. Makes the seriousness and joy of giving to others a bit of a game too. And on the 25th, it is going to be a much better day for so many more people because of DT and those who participate. I love it!! :)
Love the ideaand very happy to donate but would also like clarification on how the charity will be chosen - is it the one getting the most votes? Or is there going to be more than one charity reeceiving the donations?
