Nice changes, especially the second part, since the list is constantly growing. May I also suggest listing the photographers by their names instead of usernames? I think it looks much better to see the entire name instead of initials, nicknames or numbers.
Also I've seen somewhere on these boards a post where someone suggested putting in the front page a "featured photographer" that would be chosen weekly or monthly. Maybe this would be a nice idea too, what do you think?
Yep, weekly featured photog is already in work as well as online users' + pending stats.
Will keep updating this thread.
Regarding the nickname I understand your concerns but I think the username will become confusing if it will not be used on the site..Some people are also concerned about their privacy and preffer to keep the full name a little out of sight.
This change could be weird for people that are not browsing the site/forums often.
But I think that it can be solved easily: any of you that want to have their name more visible should choose the full name as a nickname. For example Jack Schiffer did it or Gina Rothfels. The profile page doesn't allow you to replace your nickname, but you can send us a request at support and we will edit it.
Two new sections have been added on the homepage (version for loged in members):
- most popular shots displays the files that had most downloads/views the current week.
- latest photographers provides information about the members that recently joined the website and uploaded images (a photographer will be included in this section after he/she has at least one image online)
We have increased the instant buy price to $3 in order to motivate the users to signup instead of buying as guests. This is not related to image levels.
For a limited time interval one free credit was added to each account (new or already made). We believe this should improve the sense of community by allowing photographers to download shots from other users.
The list on the left bar will soon be replaced with 2 sections:
- top contributors : will list the photographers based on how many shots each portfolio has.
- most active: will list the photographers with highest uploads and activity level for the current week. Is a weekly based ranking, but considering that will be done for the current week it will be really dynamic (the other option was for the previous week).
Nice work on the front page! This site is starting to look very professional interesting and easy to navigate at the same time (the latest views feature gives a very nice touch) .
I only have one suggestion: maybe you could move the newest photographers list to the left column and only list the names cause now it's taking a lot of space (and the newest images are pulled way too low and it takes a lot of scrolling to see them all).
I have a 19" monitor and it doesn't really bother me but I still have to scroll in order to see the latest additions.
We can't move the "latest added" more to the top because that part has the feature of 12 | 24 | 36 images per page... a user that has set this to 36 images will scroll way to much until he reaches the following sections (i.e. newest photographers).
Placing that section on the left bar might be an idea, though they will be seen everywhere on the site without having a big portfolio (they're brand new)
Also when the sales will increase the old photographers will be more targeted than the new ones (because of search engine placement, activity, etc.). Thew new comers might be neglected and this is a feature to give them an initial boost and encouragement.
We will try to think about a way of reducing the height... thanks.
Perhaps the admin(s) could implement a free photo feature that changes every week to generate more traffic. Even a low res. version may do the trick. I know there are a lot of people out there looking for free photos. So far I'm really liking this site. Keep up the good work!!
A free photo is already available for each user upon registering. A free photo of the week might be added in the near future, but I think that the current free credit already provides the needed input to the users.
As far as I know, there is nothing that clearly advertises a free download credit. I'm thinking of an actual graphic that says "sign up now for a free download credit" or "free image," then once they click on that image, they will be asked to sign up. Just my humble opinion!
