I have been buying on Dreamstime for 7 years now and selling for 1 year. I like Dreamstime. People are friendly and the support is great. Always super friendly!

But... I came to the point were I am thinking of selling at other stock agency's. I'm not a photographer because it whas a hoby of mine but I started afted I found out that I could also upload images so I wanted to give it a try and bought a camera to make some small extra income. Things are going okey and I am selling over $100 every month now but I am reading blogs and forums and see people selling more with less or the same amount of images on other sites. But now and then I also read experiences of people that do so much better on Dreamstime and don't want to leave or came back.

What I am looking for is photographers that left Dreamstime exclusivity and what their experience is. Also the ones that came back. I want to make my final decission and need some help with it before I get myself in all this extra work and find out I make the same total or even less.

Exclusivity is great for me as I can put all my efforts in one place and get to know what I'm doing here. Better placement, higher commission which is really paying dividends as my port matures.

Be aware of false profits talking in blogs about the power of being a none exclusive and having 100 sales in 3 years? Not a great advert for being a none exclusive in my eyes. For me getting my stuff seen leads to an average of 5 - 10 sales a day. I'm happy to build on that here because I do this for fun, I do not have hours and hours to upload all over the place and get to know all the different ins and outs of many.

Let us know what you decide :-)

Twindesign, sorry that I am not the guy with the experience you wanted, I am exclusive here, but,

We have a saying in Brazil, "The grass of the neighbour is allways greener" meaning, you never know until you are in your neighbour shoes...

For me its just like Brett said, focus here, improve your portfolio and more sales will come.

I hardly think a serious buyer wont look in more than one agency and DT is one of the top, so why would you go there?
Just for them to compare and buy where the cheaper price is?

The only option I think would add is to sell RM, but thats a completely diferent business.

I use to sell everywhere since 2004 but now I'm exclusive at DT. Everyone has there own reasons I believe. In my case, I'm a full time photographer however microstock only accounts for a tiny fraction of my income. My income comes from dealing directly with clients every day. That means I don't have time to waste messing around with every micro agency online .. or even with just the top 4. DT is the best by far in my opinion and that's why I decided to be exclusive here. I can break out of my daily routine, make some extra cash and still remain productive with my daily photography business.

Keep in mind, too, that working with 4 or 6 agencies means your desk time increases exponentially also. Would the reduction in DT income plus the addition of other agency incomes be worth the considerable additional amount of time spent preparing images for submission? Other agencies have different submission criteria, so you may find yourself preparing the same image multiple ways.

Hi Marcel

It´s not hard to decide. If you want more money you must work with more than one. If to´s only hobby you can do want you like, cause it´s a hobby ;-)

But in my opinion it´s not a lot to do if you want to work with other agencies. You have he pic and the keywords. Only upload and search the categories.

And Afagundes said it correct. Serious buyers won't look in more than one agency. So you never reach them !!! Dreamstime is not the biggest agency with most buyers .

I work with 6 agencies and i like the workflow and slowly I am beginning to earn money also :-)

At the moment i can´t imagine to work with only one agency. Why ?

I have every day 15-25 sales . If i go back to one agency, i don´t think it will be better.

What you don´t know you'll never miss !!! Keep in mind

Marcel your images are superb! So surprised none have been chosen as editor's choice. Your images will rocket wherever you put them. Disclaimer: The author of the previous statement is not responsible for wrong predictions :)

Thank you all for your answers! This really helps me allot! Staying exclusive is the best choice if it would be depending on the time I have since I have a very busy day job and 2 children that eat allot of my time. I also have to work evenings almost every day. But I don't care to make extra hours for uploading to other agency's IF it would make a big difference. If it would bring 10-25% extra I would not do it but the stories I see are telling me I could double my income from what I make here being exclusive.

And a most of all... I like it here. It feels good selling here and the support is super friendly and this makes you feel you don't want to leave them and disappoint them. I get the most friendly e-mails from them when I asked to end my exclusivity and this makes me feel I don't want to leave them. I am really sensitive for these things. Kindness is a real powerful weapon haha.

But... this I why I want to know if this is true or not. Does it realy make a big difference and if I want to take microstock more serious when it comes to income should I leave? 300+ images that make me $100+ could mean 3000 images should make me $1000+ here being exclusive. But what do 300 images or 3000 images sell for on a monthly basis on other agency's?

Forgot 10-25 %. Mine grows 400 % after 1/2 Year.

But i like Dreamstime also. It´s not a decision for your life ;-)

Hi Twindesign. I think I'm the person you are looking for . I was the exclusive photographer two years .I gave up two months ago and for a month I put pictures in other agencies. What exactly You want to know?
If this is your hobby, I propose You to be an exclusive .
Dreamstime is the best agency for me all the time but I think it's time to broaden the horizon.
My advice is if you do something else besides photography become an exclusive photographer becouse it takes many time to put pictures in other venues.

DT gives me about 4-5% of my total microstock income, so in my case it would be an easy choice =)

We are selling RF and Editorial images here, RM is Right Management, dealed with other agencies, are more expensive licenses, like US$ 1,000.00.

Normally they are timed like for an year or so, specifically for some uses, and the quality has to be outstanding, of course.

If I would diversify, that would be the path to go IMHO.

Its been 2 days since I am not exclusive anymore and I got many of my best selling files online at other agencies. But I am already missing exclusivity since I still get many credit sales on Dreamstime and not any sale yet on the other sites. And my credit earnings have dropt bij 50%. I have to be patience but I am having the feeling already that I might return to exclusivity in a few weeks. Maybe I have to be more patience... I will keep you up to date.
