Houses below the cliffs were crushed and buildings at the top are now too dangerous to occupy. This house at the botom of the cliffs was surounded by massive boulders but unbelievably untouched. A lucky escape.

These excavators or diggers are designed (from right to left) to tear down buildings, cut steel reinforcing and scoop up the debris for removal.

13 March 2011, Christchurch, New Zealand. Victoria Lake in Hagley Park has emptied as a result of recent earthquakes. The bottom of the lake is also covered by a thick layer of sand and mud caused liquefaction. Engineers are unable to locate the leaks.
