This famous horse hill figure here was carved possibly before 1742, then regenerated later that century. It lies on the south facing slope of Bratton Down, 738 feet above sea level. It is next to an Iron Age fort with earthworks. Attempts have been made to connect it to battles fought by King Alfred, but there are no documents which link him to this site. nParglider enthusiasts often use this hill as the wind from the southwest comes up the steep slope and lifts their canopies. In this image they are still waiting for the right conditions.

TenneT the power supplier put the new Randstad 380 kV Northring high-voltage connection into operation on 10 October 2019. With the construction of the 60-kilometer-long connection between Beverwijk and Bleiswijk the northern 380 kV ring structure in the Randstad has now also been realized. The Southern Ring was already in use in 2013. This has created a future-proof and sustainable supply that is not only important for the security of electricity supply in the Randstad but also for transporting the green energy from the wind farms provided in the North Sea.
