Single leaf opposite, leaf blade linear lanceolate, entire margin or with fine teeth, midrib prominent. Flowers grow singly at the ends of branches or in clusters of several flowers, with petals that are purple red, pink, bright red, or white. The capsule is cylindrical and enclosed in the perennial calyx. The seed is black and flattened in shape. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to September.
