Minoan/Roman harbour, Kommos. View of the ruins of the ancient harbour at Kommos, southern Crete, which was used from Minoan to Roman times but subsequently silted up and now lies behind the beach. It was here that Homer records Menelaus s fleet being shipwrecked on the way home from Troy.
